Tactus – rerun concert

In the seventh edition of [‘tactus], Young Composers Forum in 2017, the German composer Torsten Herrmann has been selected to be programmed by the Brussels Philharmonic.

His piece Macramé is performed on 8th February 2019 at Flagey in Brussels (BE).

Thorsten Herrmann
Torsten Herrmann was born in 1981 in Jülich, Germany. He studied Composition with Hanspeter Kyburz and Electronic Music with Wolfgang Heiniger at the Hanns-Eisler Hochschule Berlin (Germany). Furthermore, he took classes in Composition with Frédéric Durieux, Electronic Music with Yan Maresz and Orchestration with Marc André Dalbavie at the Conservatoire National Supérieur of Paris (France). Since 2018, he is a lecturer in orchestration and instrumentation at the Hanns-Eisler Hochschule Berlin.
Torsten Herrmann received numerous prizes and awards for his music. He was a finalist of the Queen Elisabeth Competition in Brussels, he received the Hanns-Eisler Prize Berlin, the 1st prize of the Freestyle Competition London and the Franz-Liszt Award of the Conservatory of Weimar. Moreover, he was awarded at the Orchestra Workshop with the Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart.
From 2016-2017 he has a residency grant at the Villa Massimo Rome (Italy). In addition, he received residency grants and fellowships by the Cité des Arts Paris (France), the Künstlerdorf Schöppingen (Germany) and the Künstlerhof Schreyahn (Germany). Further grants were given to him by the Academy Opera Today of the Deutsche Bank Foundation, the Richard Wagner Foundation as well as the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes).
His works have been performed by ensembles and orchestras such as Ensemble Modern, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Brussels Philharmonic, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Ensemble Interface, Ensemble UnitedBerlin, Ensemble E-Mex, Zafraan Ensemble and Neue Vocalsolisten Stuttgart.
