Remake @ Ultima
09/2016 Ultima - NO
Ultima Remake is an outreach project for high schools that raises awareness for the role of art in society. Introduced to a piece of music considered a ‘contemporary classic’, students explore how the social, political and aesthetic context of the work relates to their own experiences and artistic understanding. This reflective process is starting point for the creation of audiovisual installations and performances that combine new technologies and low-tech material.
This year, students from Edvard Munch secondary school remade Terry Riley’s In C (1964) and La Monte Young’s Second Dream of the High-Tension Line Step Down Transformer (1962), works composed at a historically tense moment, yet in themselves of a meditative and inward-seeking character.
